25th to 28th April 2014
The 71st Entry Reunion April 2014
Where has 59 years gone? Since graduating in April 1955 members of the 71st have gone many ways and the remaining few endeavour to make our yearly reunion. This year the scene was set for ‘The Branston Hall’ in Lincolnshire and once again we had received a reply from Buckingham Palace wishing us an enjoyable reunion.
‘Meet and Greet’ was Friday 25th of April with an informal evening meal and a chance to catch up with the happenings over the last 12 months and more.
The following morning our ‘Carriage’ awaited to take us to Burghley House for a very pleasant day exploring the house and grounds which included ‘The Garden of Surprises’.
The coach returned to Branston Hall in plenty of time for us to chat over a drink before the informal dinner in a private dining room.
We always leave Sunday free for DIY. i.e.: Visiting local attractions, in this case, Hemswell Antiques Centre and Collectables ( Ex RAF Hemswell), (A Guardroom and Barrack Blocks equipped like you’ve never seen before?), Lincoln City, The Dam Buster’s memorial and the Petwood Hotel, 617 Sqn Officers Mess, at Woodhall Spa and much more.
Formal Gala dinner set 7 for 7.30 during which our Chairman out lined future plans and invited comments from members present. The big difference this year was that our Webmaster had via Skype linked up with two of our colleagues, one in Australia and one in New Zealand so they were able to take part in the discussions.
We took time to remember departed members and raise our glasses in the Loyal Toast. Naturally the party continued long after the tables had been cleared.
We all departed Monday after a hearty breakfast with our sights set on a reunion next year at a location which is to be decided.
